MLL (Maximum Loss Limit)

MLL is Topstep’s name for its end-of-day trailing drawdown: the Maximum Loss Limit is the balance at which the Combine or Express Funded Account closes, and it trails your highest end-of-day balance until it reaches the starting balance, where it locks.

How it works

On a 50K Combine the MLL starts $2,000 below the starting balance. Each day that closes at a new high balance moves it up by the same amount; days that close lower leave it where it was. Once the MLL reaches the starting balance it stops trailing, so from that point the full $2,000 of daily room is permanent. Open profit inside the session does not move it, which is what makes it an end-of-day rule rather than an intraday one.

Why it matters on a funded account

The MLL is the rule that ends a Topstep account; the daily loss limit on Topstep exists only on the Live account. A strategy sized to the MLL rather than to the account size survives the Combine and the XFA with the same numbers. Amounts for each account size are on the Topstep rules card.

FAQ

What is MLL in Topstep?

Maximum Loss Limit: the end-of-day trailing drawdown that closes a Topstep account. It trails the highest end-of-day balance and locks once it reaches the starting balance.

Does the MLL reset after a payout?

No. Once locked at the starting balance it stays there; payouts reduce the balance, so a payout taken while the balance is close to the MLL leaves less room for the next drawdown.
